You can now pay your self assessment tax by phone

I think the simplest way to pay any personal Self Assessment Tax is using the telephone and your debit card.

Having used it myself I can confirm it is very quick and easy to use and they will also send an email to confirm that the payment has been received.

To pay by phone you will need to call 0300 200 3402. This is a new low call rate number.

You do speak to a real person and you will be asked to give the following details:

  • Your ten digit self assessment unique tax reference
  • The amount you wish to pay
  • Your debit card number
  • The last three digits of the security number on the back of the card
  • You have the option of receiving an email confirmation if you give the revenue your email address.

You can only use this service to pay self assessment tax.

You can make payment using a credit card but there will be an additional handling fee payable.

  1. Simon says:

by dialling 0300 200 3402 in order to pay HMRC self
assessment tax today, no longer able to speak with
a real person as in the past. any thoughts on what
now appears to be simply another purely automated
    possibly unsafe system? Thankyou.
