HM Revenue & Customs has launched an initiative to encourage taxpayers with outstanding tax returns to bring themselves up to date. The scheme is specifically aimed at higher rate taxpayers who should have filed tax returns for the 2009-10 tax year and earlier.
The campaign started on 3 July and runs until 2 October 2012.
Anyone who has been sent returns or been told to complete tax returns for years 2009-10 or earlier and has yet to do so should submit their returns and pay what they owe by 2 October.
By coming forward in this campaign, taxpayers will benefit from reduced penalties.
This campaign is part of a wider HMRC campaign aimed at tackling failures to file tax returns. It provides a time-limited opportunity to encourage those who want to get their tax affairs up to date to come forward.
